Welcome to Aqua Mundial, a non-profit foundation committed to preserving our planet’s water environment.

Our mission is to make a significant contribution to combating environmental degradation with our research vessel, the “Zeester.”

Research Vessel “Zeester”

Science for a Healthy Ocean

Aqua Mundial owns the seagoing research vessel “Zeester”: a 30-meter-long research vessel with a shallow draft (approximately 2.5 m), specifically designed for biological and ecological research in coastal, rivers, and offshore areas.

Thanks to this unique combination, the Zeester can operate in vulnerable shallow waters as well as on the open sea. The vessel supports research into biodiversity, water quality, fisheries, seabed effects, and climate change, and provides a flexible platform for science, policy, and nature management.

Together, we work on knowledge for a healthy ocean.

Our activities

What does the "Zeester" study?- The "Zeester" studies marine life and the conditions in which that life must survive and recover: - Fish, benthic organisms, and plankton -Water quality and oxygen in the sea - Effects of pollution and climate change - Nurseries for young fish -Restoration of natural habitats, such as shellfish banks and seagrass -Scientists take samples, measure the water, and track animals underwater. -This generates knowledge that helps better protect the sea. -Why is this important? The data we collect: ✔ show how healthy the sea is ✔ help protect vulnerable natural habitats ✔ contribute to the sustainable use of the sea and coast ✔ support better choices for the future With the "Zeester", Aqua Mundial connects science, nature, and society.
